Leeds United are one of three Premier League clubs taking a look at KRC Genk left-back and Mexico international Gerardo Arteaga this summer, according to a report from Spanish newspaper Marcaas per Leeds Live.

Arteaga, 23, has spent the last two seasons with Genk in Belgium – clocking up 70 outings. Last term, the 14-time Mexico star played 42 times in all competitions, having a hand in six goals. He played in the Europa League.

Now, his future is up in the air. The defender has entered the final 12 months of his Genk contract and if the Belgians want to get a fee for his services, they will have to cash in this summer. Leeds are one club showing interest.

However, they are not alone. In fact, Leeds are one of eight clubs eyeing Arteaga. Fulham and Brighton, too. From Spain – Getafe, Betis, Villarreal and Celta Vigo, and in Italy, Salernitana.

Leeds taking a look at Arteaga: Competition for Firpo?

Leeds have been active this summer. Six new signings, two of which came in the last 24 hours – in Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams. Jesse Marsch is said to want another striker and an experienced goalkeeper as back-up.

But perhaps, Leeds should also consider a left-back. Junior Firpo struggled last term. Although it was his first season in the Premier League, he was often injured and it hampered his momentum. Stuart Dallas is injured.

The Leeds stalwart is likely to be out until the new year. So, Leeds could do with a left-back, especially with Leif Davis ‘heading to’ Ipswich. Arteaga would be ideal; cheap, due to his contract, young, but also an international.
