Leeds United had been tipped to bring the 26-year-old to Elland Road and that is still a possibility after an alternative move fell through.
According to a report from lanuovasardegna.it, Leeds United maintain an interest in Cagliari defender Bartosz Salamon following the player’s failed move to Las Palmas.
As stated in the report, the centre-back had agreed to follow Roberto De Zerbi to the Spanish side, only for the manager to refuse the job offer earlier this week, leaving Salamon to look for another club if he does opt to leave Serie A this summer.
The lanuovasardengna.it report also states that Cagliari are continuing to monitor Giuseppe Bellusci’s situation but see him very much as second choice behind Marco Andreolli.
If they are unsuccessful in convincing the latter to join, the will jump in “head-first” for the much maligned Leeds man.
The Whites need quality defensive reinforcements this summer after seeing former loanee Kyle Bartley return to his parent club Swansea City, and with Bellusci’s future surely elsewhere that leaves only Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson as senior centre-backs.
Salamon is the right age to join them and he certainly has plenty of experience when it comes to Italian football.
The last defender Leeds signed from Serie A proved to be quite a coup, but only will tell if the Polish international follows suit.
Leeds would be getting a good deal swapping Salamon for Bellusci, however he is not Cagliari’s first choice and Whites fans will understand why.
