According to Fabrizio Romano and Phil Hay, Leeds are ready to bid for Rasmus Kristensen, as Jesse Marsch aims to bring him to the Premier League.
What’s the story?
Well, the 24-year-old knows Marsch well, after making 64 appearances under the American during their time together at RB Salzburg.
Now, it seems Leeds are ready to bid for Kristensen, with an opening offer set to be made imminently.
Romano believes Leeds won’t have any issues agreeing personal terms with the Denmark international, who is the No.1 target for Marsch as he aims to strengthen his right-back department.
In collaboration with Hay, the reliable Italian journalist added that talks are ongoing between Leeds and RB Salzburg, who only recently made contact with each other when agreeing a deal for Brenden Aaronson.
In 44 appearances last season, Kristensen scored ten goals while also providing eight assists for the Austrian side.
That would be a decent return for a striker, let alone a defender, so Leeds fans have every right to be excited.
In his 64 appearances under Marsch, the Dane scored four goals and assisted 11 more, which suggests he should have no issues going forward under the American if – or when – he arrives in Yorkshire.
If Leeds do manage to sign Kristensen, it could cause problems for Tottenham in their pursuit of Nordi Mukiele.
Rasmus Kristensen could transform Leeds
In our view, Kristensen could give Leeds another dimension in attack.
In many ways, he would be the heir to Luke Ayling, who shone for Leeds in the Championship with his frequent goal involvements under Marcelo Bielsa.
The importance of an attack-minded defender cannot be understated, especially in modern football – just look at Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson at Liverpool.
Kristensen’s record of goals and assists is not normal for a right-back, and seeing as Junior Firpo has struggled on the left of defence, it is imperative that Marsch finds someone he can trust to deliver on the right.
Having tipped the Dane for a big move in 2021, it seems the American does have faith in the RB Salzburg gem.
