Leeds United and Norwich City are both interested in signing Bradford City defender James Meredith.

A report in the Daily Star has suggested that Leeds United are considering a £350,000 bid for Bradford City’s James Meredith seemingly in an attempt to land the defender before their rivals can swoop in.

According to a report from FourFourTwo Australia in December, the Whites were eyeing up a move for the 28-year-old at the end of the season when his current contract at Valley Parade expires.

However, the Star are now suggesting that Garry Monk may want to bring the Australian to Elland Road during this window and may be prepared to give the green light to a £350,000 bid.

But it appears that Leeds may not be putting the only offer on the table as the Star adds that Norwich City are planning a similar bid for Meredith, who is enjoying a good year with the Bantams.

Stuart McCall’s men are currently fourth in the third tier, and only one team can boast a better defensive record than Bradford in the league this term.

And Meredith has proved to be useful going forward as well, with one goal and one assist coming in the league, meaning that he has had a direct hand in as many goals this season as Charlie Taylor.

But could Meredith be one of the men brought in to replace Taylor? The Star reports that he is also out of contract this summer, wants to leave his current team and has several Premier League sides after him.

That would leave Leeds desperately short of options on the left-hand side of defence, so it arguably makes sense for Monk to pursue Meredith now in preparation for when Taylor potentially seeks a new challenge at the end of the season.
