Cresswell, 19, broke into the Leeds senior side last season, making his first-team debut. He ended the campaign with seven senior outings – having captained the Under-23’s to the Premier League Div 2 title in 2020-21.

The England Under-21 international is one of Leeds’ best young players. But the most game time has gone to both Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood. Cresswell is on their level, but has suffered due to first-team competition.
Leeds are well-stocked at centre-back in Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk. Cresswell needs minutes and has chosen to leave for Millwall – with a medical next week and a deal ‘close’.

Cresswell is unfortunate. A defender that already is showing Premier League potential, but needs first-team minutes to take his game to the next level. Millwall, albeit rivals of Leeds, is the perfect move.
The Lions are renowned for having big, physical, powerful centre-backs and Cresswell fits that mould. Gary Rowett will be foolish not to make Cresswell a starting option – a player Jesse Marsch said is the ‘loudest’ in training.
Hopefully for Leeds, Cresswell produces a Ben White-like loan spell and returns to Leeds with the best part of 50 games under his belt. If so, you would expect him to have a real shot at being first choice in 2023-24.
