Report: Leeds plan to keep Kemar Roofe amid Blackburn interest

Leeds United are reportedly hoping that they will be able to keep Kemar Roofe this summer despite interest from their Championship rivals.

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are currently planning to reject any interest in Kemar Roofe as Blackburn find themselves amongst a host of sides looking at signing the forward this summer.

Roofe has endured a fairly mixed spell at Elland Road since joining for £3 million ahead of Garry Monk’s season in charge – fee reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The former Oxford United man only managed to score three goals during his first campaign, but did provide seven assists in the league as Chris Wood stamped his authority on the sole striker role.

He was much more prolific during his second season however, finishing the campaign as Leeds’ top goalscorer with 14 goals in all competitions. But, Roofe continued to struggle to win over all of the supporters as it seemed just as likely that he was going to go missing in a game as it was that he would make himself look like a superstar.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Blackburn are keen on signing Roofe and may not be his only admirers at this stage, but Marcelo Bielsa has no desire to let the 24-year-old move on.

It is probably little surprise that Leeds plan to reject any Roofe interest right now. Even if he was not going to be a key part of Bielsa’s plans for the coming season, the fact that the Whites have not been able to bolster their attacking ranks so far this summer means that it would be a major gamble to sanction Roofe’s exit for a second tier rival.

But it appears that it is going to take an astronomical offer to prise Roofe away from Elland Road as Leeds reportedly have no desire to sell as things stand.
