According to Jeunes Footeux in France, Leeds are now keen to sign Pape Gueye from Marseille, a player who has been compared to Paul Pogba.

Leeds want Pape Gueye

Well, the French news outlet believe Marseille could sell the Senegal international in January, as he is far from an important player under Igor Tudor.

Gueye finds himself fourth in the midfield pecking order behind Mattéo Guendouzi, Valentin Rongier and Jordan Veretout, making just three starts in Ligue 1 so far this season.

Jeunes Footeux believe Southampton are also eyeing the 23-year-old Leeds target.

However, the Saints are only interested in a loan deal with an option to buy, whereas Pablo Longoria – President of Marseille – would prefer a permanent sale to raise some funds.

The French giants have seen their finances hit after dropping out of European competition for this season, following a late winner from Tottenham on Tuesday in Group D of the Champions League.

Leeds could sign a gem in Pape Gueye

In our view, Gueye could become a huge hit at Elland Road.

The Marseille No.22 emerged from the famed Le Havre Academy, where the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Dimitri Payet and Paul Pogba have been developed.

Interestingly, Gueye has actually been compared to the latter of those names by Michael Bunel – Technical Director of the Le Havre Academy and also the midfielder’s first coach.

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: “It’s not easy to compare because the comparison is always complicated but I would say, even if the personality was different, Paul Pogba.

“Gueye was very easy with the ball, especially with his left foot. Actually, he has a very good left foot. He is very gifted.”

By the sounds of it, Marseille are neglecting a promising talent, who could fulfil his obvious potential under Jesse Marsch at Leeds – be sure to keep an eye on this situation ahead of the January transfer window.
