Leeds United have made their first move in a bid to sign Edinson Cavani, according to ESPN Uruguay.

Leeds have now made contact with the free agent forwards, in what could be one of the most remarkable transfers of the summer.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side seemingly are planning to use their new top flight status to encourage Cavani into making a move to Elland Road.

If the high-profile forward did move to Yorkshire it would really outline the ambition of Leeds ahead of their first season back in the top flight since 2004.

Cavani is currently out of contract after leaving PSG, and is said to be willing to listen to Leeds’s offer.

Despite his advancing years, Cavani would surely be a wonderful addition to Bielsa’s squad.

The clinical finisher has been a reliable goalscorer at the very highest level through his career.

“He is a genius as a goalscorer,” his teammate Marquinhos once told Goal.

Cavani’s level of finishing ability could appeal to Leeds, as they create so many chances.

Patrick Bamford was criticised at times for being profligate in front of goal this term, and Leeds will need to be more ruthless if they are to be successful next season, when chances may be harder to come by.
