According to Sport Mediaset, Sassuolo are now looking to snap up Leeds United target Erick Pulgar from Fiorentina.

La Nazione reported in late December that Marcelo Bielsa had picked out Fiorentina duo Pulgar and Christian Kouame, telling Leeds to sign them both.

Leeds seemingly haven’t made their move for the duo just yet, and they could now miss out on Pulgar amid rival interest.

It’s suggested that Sassuolo now want to sign Pulgar, and are rivalling Cagliari, Torino and even Lecce in a major battle for the Chilean.

Pulgar, 27, hit seven goals in 38 games for Fiorentina last season, and has been an important part of their midfield since signing from Bologna in 2019.

Bielsa may well be familiar with Pulgar from his knowledge of Chilean football, and his ability to play as a holding midifelder or in a box-to-box role could be ideal.

Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich are key players, but they have a lack of competition right now, and Pulgar could just provide Bielsa with another proven option to rotate his side a little more.

Sassuolo now pose a major threat to Leeds’ hopes of signing Pulgar, and the Whites will have to move quickly if they want to sign the Chile international this month.
