Leeds United had been linked with the former Sweden international.
According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United have pulled out of a deal to sign former Watford defender Joel Ekstrand due to fitness concerns.
Leeds have been busy this summer, bringing in six new players to date and selling Lewis Cook to Bournemouth for £10million. But new manager Garry Monk is not expected to stop there, and Ekstrand had been hotly tipped to become the seventh new signing at Elland Road in quick succession.
However, the YEP claims Leeds started to have doubts regarding a player who has been blighted by injury in recent times, failing to make a single appearance for the Hornets last season due to a cruciate ligament injury.
If fully fit, there is no doubt Ekstrand would have been a superb addition to Leeds’ squad, but with ongoing concerns regarding his injury record it seems Monk will now be forced to look elsewhere for additional defensive reinforcements.
Kyle Bartley has already arrived on loan from Swansea City, but with Giuseppe Bellusci leaving that still leaves only three senior centre-backs at Monk’s disposal.
