Leeds United have seemingly moved closer to signing a left-back after Victor Orta talks this week, the Yorkshire Evening Post report.

Leeds have been linked with a whole host of left sided defenders heading into the summer transfer window, but the YEP has played down links with all previously mentioned names.

Nicolas Tagliafico has apparently not yet held talks with Leeds, while Romain Perraud, Javi Galan and Alex Grimaldo are all said not to be the player in question.

The news adds a layer of intrigue, as Leeds seemingly zero in on a new target.

The mystery man

The YEP says that the player impressed Victor Orta so much that he is now in a ‘strong’ position to earn himself a move to Elland Road.

It is also claimed that he would have the credentials to play for a Marcelo Bielsa managed side.

That is likely to mean that Leeds’ target is full of energy, and enjoys having licence to get forward.

Gjanni Alioski has been Leeds’ first choice in the left-back role for much of the campaign, but there are concerns over his future.

Even if he does stay, it is felt that Leeds see the left-back zone as an area they can improve.

Alioski has his strengths, but his final ball is sometimes questioned and he can be prone to lapses in concentration defensively.

In fairness to the North Macedonian international those weaknesses haven’t been particularly evident this season.

However, Leeds seem to have made bringing a new full-back in this summer a real priority and a move looks like it’s now edging closer to completion.
