Sheffield United could complete the £3.5 million signing of Reading playmaker John Swift this week with Chris Wilder’s Blades beating local rivals Leeds to his signature, according to Berkshire Live.
In fairness, it will take something rather bigger than this to take the shine of a weekend of wild celebrations at Elland Road.
But while one of English football’s most passionate fanbases will be waking up with a collective sore head on Monday morning, not everything has gone to plan during a memorable couple of days in West Yorkshire.
According to Berkshire Live, Leeds were keen to follow up their Premier League return by snapping up one of the most influential midfielders in the Championship – one Marcelo Bielsa himself described as a ‘great player’.
But, after adding to his growing reputation with a sublime free-kick during Reading’s 4-3 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, Swift is set to join the club who pipped Leeds to promotion a year ago.
Sheffield United are closing in what could be a bargain £3.5 million deal. It is understood that the former Chelsea youngster could sign on the dotted line as soon as this week.

Swift has produced six goals and ten assists for a mid-table Reading side this season.
If Leeds had hoped that he could step into the shoes of the brilliant yet now-35-year-old Pablo Hernandez, it seems that they will have to look elsewhere.
