Leeds United have made their first move to sign Valencia striker Rodrigo, the Daily Mail suggest.

Gianluca Di Marzio was the first to report on Leeds’ apparent interest in the Valencia forward, and he claimed that Marcelo Bielsa’s side want the deal wrapped up before the start of the Premier League season.

The Mail now back up the Italian journalist, and they say that Leeds have already made their first move to sign the 29-year-old.

The Whites have apparently asked Valencia about Rodrigo’s availability and they have been told that a deal is possible.

Rodrigo would cost them £30 million, which would require the Whites to break their transfer record, but with Valencia struggling for funds, a deal for the forward could go ahead.

If Leeds were to sign Rodrigo it would really be a signal of their intent ahead of the new season.

The Spanish international has been called an ‘extraordinary’ player by ex-Barcelona boss Quique Setien before to Goal and it is easy to see why.

Rodrigo is a wonderfully gifted technical player, who has been capped by Spain at international level.

Although he only notched seven goals in all competitions last term, he has previously proven to be a regular scorer in La Liga.

Rodrigo would likely walk straight into Leeds’ starting line-up, ahead of Patrick Bamford, if he was to sign up before the Whites’ Premier League opener.

And if Leeds could finance a deal, Rodrigo would certainly be an exciting capture for their first season back in the top flight.
