According to La Repubblica, Leeds have initiated contact with Sampdoria as they look to bring Mikkel Damsgaard to Elland Road this summer.
The Italian news outlet states that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have ‘tested the waters’ in an attempt to sign the 20-year-old.
Tottenham, West Ham and Southampton are also credited with an interest in the 1-cap Denmark international by La Repubblica.
Sampdoria paid €6.5 million (£5.7 million) to sign Damsgaard from Nordsjælland.
However, La Repubblica say that it will take a sum of €20 million (£17.5 million) to convince the Serie A outfit to sell the attacker.

If Leeds can beat the aforementioned Premier League trio to the Dane’s signature, then it sounds like they’ll be getting a fine prospect.
You’ll be forgiven for not knowing much about Damsgaard, as he is quite an unknown quantity in England.
However, The Athletic did include him in a list of the most underrated talents in Serie A, which is encouraging.

In their feature on the Leeds target, The Athletic describe Damsgaard as ‘a fine dribbler and elite shooter’ – that doesn’t sound too shabby.
Hopefully, Bielsa and Orta can fend off Tottenham, West Ham and Southampton to bring the Dane to Yorkshire.
By all accounts, it seems like Damsgaard would thrive in the Argentine’s high tempo, attacking style of football.
