According to The Mirror, Leeds United have enquired about signing Norwich City centre back Sebastien Bassong – but face competition from Fulham.

The Whites went into the summer knowing they had to strengthen their defence, and manager Garry Monk has taken steps to solidify his backline by adding Luke Ayling, Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson.

However, there could be another deal on the cards for Leeds, even after keeping a clean sheet against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.

The Mirror report that, with just days to go until the transfer window slams shut, Leeds have made an enquiry about signing Norwich City centre back Sebastien Bassong.

Bassong, 30, has bags of Premier League experience to his name from spells with Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City, but is now set to leave Carrow Road having dropped down the pecking order under Alex Neil.

A Cameroon international, Bassong is allegedly free to leave Norwich, and Leeds have taken a first step towards a deal by enquiring about his availability – but they aren’t the only Championship side keen on the centre back.

Fulham – managed by Bassong’s former Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic – are also believed to interested in signing the defender, meaning Leeds won’t have it all their own way in the pursuit of Bassong.

Any move to sign him would raise major questions over the future of either Liam Cooper or Sol Bamba, given the options that Monk already has in defence – and given his performances so far this season, Bamba may be on the chopping block, despite being club captain.
