Leeds United have made a move to sign Manuel Lanzini ahead of the January transfer window, according to TeamTalk.
Lanzini to Leeds?
The report claims that Leeds have now made an enquiry to West Ham United, as they look to land the playmaker.
Leeds have been chasing a creative midfielder for some time, with Marcelo Bielsa apparently now setting his sights upon landing Lanzini.
Unfortunately for the Whites their approach was given short shrift, as West Ham quickly rejected it.
But it remains to be seen whether a big money offer could make the Hammers more receptive to listening to Leeds’ advances in January.
Lanzini is clearly a major talent on his day, but at the age of 28 this could be West Ham’s last realistic chance to bring in decent money for the Argentine.
His importance to David Moyes’ side has declined in recent times, as he has made just three starts this season.
But he could be a good fit for Leeds, as a hard-working and technically efficient midfielder.
His quality on the ball remains undoubted and if Leeds fans wanted to be convinced over the value of the transfer they only need to read his former teammate, Jordan Hugill’s comments.
He said to QPR’s Facebook: “In training, being around this player all the time, he’s brilliant, he’s amazing. I’ve never seen a player like him; Manu Lanzini,” Hugill said.
“The things he can do with a football, it’s incredible just to watch him and in training its even better.”
That injection of quality could hardly come at a better time for Leeds, given their recent struggles.
Bielsa’s men are sat just above the relegation zone and will surely be open to investing in January, as they look to secure their space in the top flight for another year.
