According to AS, Leeds United have now made contact about a deal for Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico – but they’re far from alone.
It’s claimed that Leeds were the most recent team to engineer contact, most likely to the left back’s agent rather than Ajax themselves.
Leeds are pushing for the 28-year-old to become their new starting left back in an ambitious move, but they’re going to face a real battle.
Manchester City are still thought to be interested, whilst Atletico Madrid are viewing Tagliafico as a priority despite having Renan Lodi at left back.
Inter Milan are interested too, meaning Tagliafico will have plenty of options having established a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Ajax to leave this summer.
Tagliafico’s price tag is allegedly set at around €15million (£13million), and Leeds want him given that Ezgjan Alioski’s contract expires this summer.
With an Italian passport, Tagliafico shouldn’t have any issues heading to England, and the chance to play under compatriot Marcelo Bielsa has to be appealing.
With 13 goals and 18 assists in 137 games for Ajax, Tagliafico has been one of Europe’s top left backs in recent times, and therefore a massive coup for Leeds – if they can fend off the likes of Atletico, Inter and City, three of the clubs involved in the European Super League debacle.
