There have been calls for Leeds to recall Lewie Coyle this month.
The Yorkshire Evening Post have claimed on their live transfer blog (Wednesday, 10:15) that Leeds United will not recall defender Lewie Coyle from his season-long loan at League One side Fleetwood Town.
There had been claims for the Whites to recall their 22-year-old academy product, following the injury to mainstay Luke Ayling towards the end of December during the 0-0 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Coyle has been in magnificent form for Uwe Rosler’s side this season, making 30 appearances in all competitions for the Trawlermen as well as adding five assists for the mid-table side.
Thomas Christiansen started Gaetano Berardi at right-back and Conor Shaughnessy at centre-back on Tuesday night against Hull City, but the latter was forced off the field with an injury in the sixth minute of the 0-0 draw.
It saw Berardi move into the centre of defence alongside Pontus Jansson, with Stuart Dallas coming on to play at right-back for the Whites, highlighting Leeds’ need for a right-back in Ayling’s absence.
However, the report claims Leeds want Coyle to be playing regular football and that is behind their decision to leave Coyle at Fleetwood, with the loan deal including a clause that allows the Whites to recall him this month.
Coyle has a contract with the Whites until the summer of 2020, with the Daily Star claiming he earns just £800 a week.
