Crystal Palace and Leeds United are reportedly in the race to sign Matthew Knox.

According to TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace and Reading are preparing bids for Livingston’s Matthew Knox – but Leeds United have also asked to be kept informed of the situation.

Knox, 17, has come up through the ranks with Livingston to become a first-team player already, and his ascent in Scotland has unsurprisingly attracted interest.

The young striker has already undergone spells training with Manchester United and Rangers, with clubs seemingly queueing up to sign the Scot.

However, TEAMtalk report that Nottingham Forest – managed by Mark Warburton, who took Knox on trial at Rangers – had been leading the race for the prodigy, until now.

It’s now claimed that Crystal Palace and Reading are preparing bids to sign Knox, in the hope of winning the race for his signature ahead of Cardiff City and Leeds United, who are believed have contacted Livingston to ask to be kept informed on Knox’s situation.

Leeds’ record with developing young players is remarkable, and that could help them in the race for Knox’s signature, though they would have to firm up their interest quickly this summer.

Palace are the only team in the race right now who can offer Premier League football, and new manager Frank de Boer is not only a huge name in the game, but also a coach familiar with developing youngsters having nurtured many of Ajax’s talents.

Leeds and Palace may have something of a boost given that Livingston boss David Hopkin used to play for both clubs, and could offer recommendations to Knox, whose bright future in the game sees him at the centre of a huge transfer scrap this summer.
