According to Tutto Mercato Web, Leeds have now made contact with Sampdoria over the signing of Omar Colley, who’s also wanted by Celtic.

The Italian news outlet claim that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have made their move for the 25-cap Gambia international.

Elsewhere, it was SampNews24 who claimed that Celtic had identified the 28-year-old as someone who could bolster their backline.

Nevertheless, it’s Leeds who are in the spotlight today.

Tutto Mercato Web add that Colley – who cost Sampdoria €7.5 million (£6.5 million) – has now obtained a work permit.

This comes as a boost to Leeds, as it will now be easier for him to complete a move to England, according to the report.

Tutto Mercato Web also state that Colley is allowed to leave Sampdoria this summer, despite a recent contract renewal.

The Banjul-born defender recently put pen to paper on a contract until June 2025, but that doesn’t appear likely to affect his chances of a summer exit.

So far this season, Colley has made 22 appearances in Serie A, scoring one goal while helping Sampdoria sit comfortably in tenth.

In our view, Leeds shouldn’t proceed with this move.

Bielsa has two big-money centre-backs in Diego Llorente and Robin Koch, as well as the likes of Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk to deputise.

The money for Colley would be better off spent elsewhere, perhaps at left-back – should Ezgjan Alioski depart, that is.
