According to Italian newspaper Il Secolo XIX, a number of Premier League clubs are interested in signing Sampdoria midfielder Ronaldo Vieira – including his former club Leeds United.

It’s claimed that Leeds sent scouts to watch Vieira in action in July, with a view to bringing him back to Elland Road this summer.

However, they’re not the only ones. Burnley, Everton, Leicester City, Southampton and even Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be eyeing him.

The report notes that Vieira is particularly appealing to English clubs because he is a homegrown player, which will be hugely important when Brexit regulations hit the Premier League.

Sampdoria would want at least €10million (£9million) for Vieira, though president Massimo Ferrero would like to raise that price even higher if a bidding war ensues.

The 22-year-old left Leeds in 2018, with owner Andrea Radrizzani admitting to BBC Sport that he had to ‘sacrifice’ Vieira in order to bring in money for new signings.

Radrizzani added that Marcelo Bielsa didn’t want to sell Vieira, so it does make some sense that he would still be wanted at Elland Road.

Vieira can play either in front of the back four or as a box-to-box midfielder, meaning he could fill a couple of roles in Bielsa’s usual 4-3-3 setup.

The rival interest is a threat, especially with Tottenham and Jose Mourinho believed to be keen, but having held such a strong affinity with Leeds during his first spell at the club, Vieira may well be tempted to head back to West Yorkshire.
