Leeds United had hoped to bring Cyle Larin to Elland Road as they continue their push for promotion out of the Championship.
Larin has been fairly prolific in Major League Soccer since arriving ahead of the 2015 season, scoring 43 goals in 87 appearances for Orlando, and his form his attracted plenty of attention.
The Sun reports that Besiktas and Monchengladbach were both keen on pulling off a deal for the 22-year-old, while Leeds were also interested in bringing him to Elland Road as they look to sustain their push for promotion out of the Championship this season.
In fact, the Canada international was in attendance for their clash with Bayern Munich towards the end of November, and The Sun now suggests that that is his most likely destination ahead of January.
While Larin would have to prove himself with the Whites given that MLS probably still does not have the stature it craves, he may well have been a welcome addition to Thomas Christiansen’s squad – despite their current position in the table.
Leeds have had several strikers stake a claim to be considered first-choice as the season has gone on, but none have really enjoyed a brilliant run over a long period. And in their last four games – three of which Leeds have won – the side’s strikers have provided just one goal between them, with Kemar Roofe scoring the winner against Burton Albion on Boxing Day.
But it appears that if Victor Orta was hoping that Larin would be the man to bolster their options in January, he may now have to look elsewhere.
