Swansea City winger Daniel James reportedly saw a £10 million move to Leeds United fall through back in January.
According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (24/3; page 59), Dan James appears to have one condition before signing a new contract with Swansea almost two months after seeing a deadline day move to Leeds fall through.
James looked all set to become only the third signing of the January transfer window for the Championship high-flyers. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported at the time that he completed a medical ahead of a loan move that would have become permanent had Leeds been promoted before Swansea stopped taking calls from the Whites.
The Sun on Sunday (24/3; page 59) reports that the deal could have seen the Swans bag £10 million, but the winger is now in line to potentially pen a new contract at the Liberty Stadium.
However, the report adds that James may choose to sign a new deal if it includes a fixed fee clause – seemingly ensuring that he would not have to go through the same issues that led to his move to Elland Road falling through.
It remains to be seen if the Swans decide to agree to that particular clause and what figure would be involved. But it would be little surprise if plenty of Leeds fans were urging Andrea Radrizzani to make a fresh move at the end of the season.
James is still developing his game. But he is a seriously exciting talent with incredible pace. He helped cause Manchester City all sorts of problems in their recent FA Cup classic, and it would be no surprise if he was someone that Marcelo Bielsa was keeping a very close eye on heading into the summer window.
