Leeds United have reportedly been left surprised by the January speculation surrounding Jack Clarke.

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds have been left surprised by the amount of talk there has been surrounding Jack Clarke during the January transfer window.

Clarke has quickly established himself as one of the brightest talents in the Championship. The 18-year-old has made just two starts in the league, but he has still provided two goals and two assists in 13 second tier appearances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Crystal Palace, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth are amongst those to have been linked with a move for the youngster or are currently monitoring his situation.

It may not come as a surprise to the Elland Road faithful that Clarke is attracting attention. But it appears that it may have taken the Whites hierarchy aback somewhat.

The Yorkshire Evening Post adds that while they expected some speculation surrounding Clarke this month, the club did not expect so much attention – despite Palace apparently proving to be the only side to make any kind of enquiry so far for the teenager that Leeds value at more than £10 million.

It will encourage the Leeds fans that the club are determined to keep Clarke this month. Clearly, this is the Whites’ best chance at securing promotion since falling out of the Premier League more than a decade ago, and the winger is one of the players that could play a huge role in the remaining games.

And if Leeds do manage to finish the job and get promoted, then perhaps they will remain confident that Clarke will still be going nowhere as they can offer the game-time he needs at the level he is clearly destined for in the very near future.
