Leeds United are reportedly open to offers for Tom Pearce, and Championship rivals Barnsley are weighing up a move.
According to a report from the Yorkshire Post, Barnsley are weighing up whether they want to sign a third Leeds United player this summer, with the Championship newbies considering a bid for Tom Pearce.
Pearce has become a forgotten man at Elland Road. He seemed to go into last summer with a fantastic chance of becoming a key player under Marcelo Bielsa having been one of the few players to impress in the months that preceded the Argentine’s arrival.
However, Bielsa rarely picked the left-back and he spent the latter half of last season on loan at Scunthorpe United. It was hardly a spell that would have made the Leeds boss sit up and take notice, and the Yorkshire Post is now reporting that United will consider offers for the 21-year-old.
And it appears that one of their second tier rivals may be about to offer Pearce a way out of Elland Road, with the report adding that Barnsley are interested in the youngster, having already signed Mallik Wilks and Aapo Halme from the Whites this summer.
Best move for all parties?
Leeds selling Pearce looks to be a sensible decision. He seems to have four players in front of him in the pecking order right now in Barry Douglas, Gjanni Alioski, Leif Davis and Clarke Oduor.
There is an element of risk attached to selling to another Championship side, especially as Pearce showed during his initial run in the first-team that he does have potential.
But while Bielsa remains in charge at Leeds – and Whites fans will be hoping that his tenure has a lot of life left in it yet – Pearce appears to have little chance of realising that potential, so a move to Oakwell seems to make sense for all parties.
