According to a report from The Sun, it is Leeds who are leading the race to sign Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan ahead of several of their Championship rivals.

The Whites head into the final hours of the transfer window still looking to address a couple of areas of concern. For the supporters, centre-back remains a worry with Ben White, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi only being backed up by a number of under-23s, as well as the likes of Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips.

But it appears that the Whites could add to their options before the window shuts on Thursday, with The Sun reporting that they are rivalling West Brom and other second tier sides to land Carter-Vickers.

The report notes Leeds actually lead the charge to sign the USA international on a season-long loan, with the two clubs already agreeing a summer deal for Jack Clarke, which involved Spurs loaning the winger back to Elland Road for the campaign.

Carter-Vickers – who earns £20,000-a-week at Tottenham, according to Spotrac – is yet to properly break into Mauricio Pochettino’s side, but does have plenty of Championship experience, having played for Sheffield United, Ipswich Town and Swansea City in the second tier.

And while White and Cooper looked impressive at Bristol City on the opening day of the season – with the Brighton loanee, in particular, making a big impression on his Leeds debut – it would still alleviate a lot of fans’ concerns if the Whites did add another defender to their ranks before the window closes.
