Leeds United are considering targeting their former striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as they look to fill the managerial vacancy at Elland Road.

A report in the Daily Mirror has suggested that former Leeds striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is one of the names that the Whites are considering making an approach for this summer.

Leeds are still without a manager following Garry Monk’s surprise resignation shortly after the end of what had been an extremely bright season for the Championship club.

The Yorkshire Evening Post suggested that the Whites had drawn up a four-man shortlist for the role, with Reading boss Jaap Stam being one of the names on the list.

And now the Mirror have suggested two further names, with Aitor Karanka being joined by Hasselbaink on the list of targets that owner Andrea Radrizzani is currently considering.

If appointed, Hasselbaink would be returning to familiar surroundings, having played for the club during the early stages of an era just around the turn of the Millennium when the side threatened to climb both the domestic and European mountain.

Between 1997 and 1999, the Dutchman scored 34 goals in 69 Premier League games before departing for Atletico Madrid, just before David O’Leary’s men hit their peak.

While he did not return as a player following his exit, he was given the chance to return as manager when Massimo Cellino made an unsuccessful approach last summer (via Mirror).

But with Hasselbaink now out of work following his departure from Queens Park Rangers, it surely seems much more likely that he would be more interested in a return to Elland Road this time around if he is given the opportunity.
