Report: Leeds in talks with Middlesbrough over Patrick Bamford

Leeds United have reportedly begun talks with Middlesbrough regarding a potential deal for striker Patrick Bamford.

According to a report from Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (28/07; 09:55), Leeds are now in talks with Middlesbrough over a potential deal to sign Patrick Bamford this summer.

Marcelo Bielsa is still awaiting his first permanent signing of the window and the Whites undoubtedly need to bolster their striker options with their first game of the new Championship season just over a week away.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Leeds’ pursuit of Matej Vydra has stalled in recent times, and that they had now focused some of their attention on a potential move for Bamford, who helped Boro reach the Championship play-offs last season. The Mail’s report suggested that Tony Pulis’ men would struggle to reject around £12 million for the 24-year-old.

And it appears that Leeds have now stepped up their interest in the former Chelsea youngster, with Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (28/07; 09:55) reporting that the Whites have now entered talks over a potential deal for the forward.

Bamford’s record during his career has been somewhat mixed. He has enjoyed some superb spells in the Championship at the Riverside Stadium, but went goalless during brief spells in the top flight with the likes of Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley.

If talks prove successful and Bielsa can get Bamford to replicate the form that he has showed during his spells with Middlesbrough, then perhaps Leeds could be reflecting on the kind of superb deal that alleviates all of the striker worries that have plagued the side since Chris Wood’s departure a year ago.
