Leeds United are one of several sides who have been offered the Barcelona midfielder, Riqui Puig, on loan, according to 90min.

Puig has played just three minutes of first-team football all season and his agent is said to have been in touch with Leeds to gauge whether such a move could be possible, as he tries to find a temporary home for his client in January.

It is claimed that the current Barca manager, Ronald Koeman, is not considered a long-term option and the 21-year-old is therefore eyeing a fresh chance under a new boss next season, rather than seeking a permanent transfer.

In the meantime, a club like Leeds could be a good fit for Puig, with the Whites having tried and failed to strengthen in his position earlier this year.

A move for the Bayern Munich midfielder, Michael Cuisance, appeared to be done at one stage, but a vacancy remains and was further exposed during Kalvin Phillips’s recent absence.

Leeds, though, are not the only English club in the conversation, according to 90min – which claims that Puig has also been proposed to RB Leipzig and AS Monaco.

Tottenham Hotspur – then managed by Marcelo Bielsa’s friend and fellow Argentine, Mauricio Pochettino – were very close to signing Puig in 2018, according to Sport.

It was around that time that the legendary former Barcelona midfielder, Xavi Hernandez, told Mundo Deportivo: “I’d say he [Puig] is very prepared to play in the first team of Barca.

“I am very happy because when I see him playing we can see the total Barca schooling that we like so much.

“[He has] that particular DNA of our game and that is so complex to find in specific players. He sees the play right away, he knows what he has to do at all times and he is intelligent.

“The truth is that he is a boy who breathes talent and who plays easy. He has self-confidence, personality, does not hide and asks for the ball.”
