Leeds United have agreed to loan Ian Carlo Poveda to Blackburn Rovers – and now hope he could be another Harvey Elliott.

The Whites confirmed on Monday night that Poveda has left Elland Road for a season-long loan move to Blackburn.

Poveda ultimately needs games in order to kick on and develop, and that just isn’t going to come at Leeds this season.

Formerly of Manchester City, Poveda managed just 341 minutes of Premier League action last season – less than four full games.

Poveda now heads to Blackburn to try and make a real impact at Elland Road, replacing Harvey Elliott at Ewood Park after his loan spell from Liverpool came to an end.

The Lancashire Telegraph now note that Leeds hope Poveda follows the same path as Elliott in shining at Blackburn before returning to the Premier League.

Leeds director of football Victor Orta noted as much in his comments after sealing Poveda’s loan to Ewood Park, praising Rovers’ role in developing Elliott.

The parallels are clear; both Elliott and Poveda are diminutive, right-sided wingers who like to cut inside on their stronger left sides.

Elliott is now featuring in Liverpool’s first team, and Leeds will hope to see the same from Poveda next season.
