Leeds would have to pay Rangers at least £16 million for Borna Barisic’s services after recent rumours emerged.

The Daily Record have claimed that Rangers have received no bids for their left-back despite Leeds seemingly putting in a bid for the Ibrox star.

Croatian news outlet Sportske Novosti did claim that the newly-promoted Premier League side have seen an £8 million offer rejected by the Gers for Barisic.

But that has been dismissed by the Record, who make it clear that the Yorkshire outfit will have to fork up double that if they are to sign him.

Barisic has started off the new Premiership season in spectacular fashion. He has helped Steven Gerrard’s side secure six clean sheets on the bounce, whilst also scoring one goal and supplying three assists along the way.

Leeds already have a left-back in Barry Douglas on their books, whilst the more attack-minded, Ezgjan Alioski, has also played that role.

Leeds United’s first six fixtures of 2020/21

  1. Liverpool (A)

    September 12

  2. Fulham (H)

    September 19

  3. Sheffield United (A)

    September 26

  4. Manchester City (H)

    October 3

  5. Wolves (H)

    October 17

  6. Aston Villa (A)

    October 24

There’s no doubt that Marcelo Bielsa need cover in that area and it would be logical for the club to push for Barisic, especially given their rumoured interest in Ryan Kent.

Both players are already building up a strong partnership in Glasgow, and whilst it would be a nightmare for Rangers fans to lose them, they don’t want that partnership to be played out at Elland Road.

Either way, it’s quite clear that it will take some serious cash to prize Barisic away from his current surroundings, especially given what Gerrard’s men are fighting for this season.
