According to Leeds Live, Leeds United ‘feel encouraged’ about their chances of signing Wigan Athletic attack Joe Gelhardt.
It’s claimed that Victor Orta has liked Gelhardt for ‘years’, and Leeds feel there is big competition for his signature.
However, Leeds have ‘high hopes’ that they will win the race for Gelhardt, with first-team action and the prospect of playing under Marcelo Bielsa appealing.
The interest in Gelhardt is high; The Sun claim that Tottenham Hotspur are particularly keen on landing him this summer.
Leeds seemingly think they have a great chance of beating Jose Mourinho and co to his signing, in what would be a huge coup.
Gelhardt has been compared favourably to the likes of Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane, and whilst those are almost unfairly lofty comparisons, they do show just how highly-rated Gelhardt is at just 18.

The teenager has only scored once in 18 Championship games, but he has shown plenty of potential either as a striker or as a winger.
The jump to the Premier League is a big one, but Gelhardt could be a star of the future for Leeds – if they really can get him in.
