Leeds United are currently not planning to try and bring Marcus Antonsson back to Elland Road in the January transfer window.

Antonsson endured a frustrating first season at Leeds, quickly falling out of favour and struggling for chances as soon as Garry Monk switched to a system that involved just one striker early on in the campaign.

He may have hoped that Thomas Christiansen’s arrival would be exactly what he needed, but Christiansen similarly decided that he could not get the Swede into his side, thus allowing him to join the League One outfit on loan.
Antonsson has certainly made the most of the opportunity, scoring seven times in the league to help Rovers put themselves third in the table, just one point off the automatic-promotion spots.

His form has left many Leeds fans expressing their desire to see Antonsson return and get a second chance to impress – but it appears that that will not be happening next month.
It is perhaps a gamble to leave Antonsson out on loan as he is surely full of confidence right now, while none of Leeds’ strikers have shown that they can be prolific over a sustained period – though they have all shone at certain times.
Having said that, the 26-year-old, if he did return, would be fighting for a place as a sole striker, which was a position he generally struggled in last season – so perhaps it would be wishful thinking to believe that his spell at Blackburn would lead to Antonsson looking like a completely different striker if he was recalled prematurely.
