Report: Leeds facing January battle with AC Milan, £2.5m target wants new challenge

Dinamo Zagreb may be willing to accept just £2.5 million for Lovro Majer but Leeds United face competition from AC Milan for the so-called ‘new Luka Modric’, according to Pianeta Milan.

A Rossoneri side who have made their best start to a Serie A season since Fabio Capello’s mid-90s heyday might be relying upon a certain 39-year-old talisman to put the ball in the back of net – but this is no one man team beholden to the charms of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Gigi Donnarumma, Alessio Romagnoli, Rafael Leao, Alexis Saelemaekers, Ismael Bennaccer, Franck Kessie and Theo Hernandez are all 23 and under after all.

AC Milan have adopted a Dortmund-esque approach to the transfer market, making it their mission to bring the most exciting young talents in Europe to the San Siro without breaking the proverbial bank.

Dinamo Zagreb starlet Majer, then, is about as typical a modern Milan signing as you could possibly expect to find.

And if Leeds are serious about signing a fleet-footed midfielder who continues to be compared to the greatest Croatian footballer of all time, then Victor Orta will have his work cut out doing battle with a Milan side who have picked up more points than any other European side post-lockdown.

Pianeta Milan reports that Fiorentina, Dortmund, Valencia and Monchi’s Sevilla, the masters of that ‘buy low, sell high’ policy, are also keen to strike a £2.5 million bargain.

Calciomeracto adds that Majer is ready for a new challenge in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.
