Transfer expert Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Leeds are eyeing a shock move to sign Borussia Dortmund and Portugal defender Raphael Guerreiro – who has also been linked with a cut-price move to Manchester City.
Guerreiro, 28, has entered the final year of his contract at Dortmund this summer. Having spent six years with the German club, he has clocked up 191 appearances in all competitions. He has had a hand in a whopping 71 goals.
But the 56-time Portugal international is clearly keen on leaving Dortmund. Sky Sports have previously reported that Manchester City are also considering Guerreiro. His contract situation makes him potentially available on the cheap.
Now, Jones reports that he has heard Guerreiro’s name mentioned as Leeds continue to scour the market for a possible left-back arrival. Whether Leeds could tempt a player of Guerreiro’s stature remains to be seen.

“Guerreiro’s a name I’ve heard mentioned. There are a few that they’re looking at. It might be that they end up doing a loan or something from one of Europe’s bigger clubs once they know that there are people that don’t fit into plans.”
Leeds eyeing shock Guerreiro move; Manchester City also keen
What a signing Guerreiro would be for Leeds. He does not fit their current transfer blueprint, which has been to sign experienced players between the ages of 20 and 25. The likes of Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra, for example.
But Guerreiro is the kind of player to put that transfer ethos to one side for one signing. Leeds do need a left-back, after doubts over Junior Firpo’s form – and his current injury. Stuart Dallas is sidelined for another few months.
On the cheap, Guerreiro would not only be a wonderful signing – but a bargain. His goals, his assists, his consistency, his caps at Portugal level, and his Euro 2016 win, make him a wonderful addition. A potential coup.
