Leeds United are reportedly on the verge of selling Jack Clarke, but he is expected to return immediately on loan.
According to a report from the Guardian, Leeds expect Jack Clarke to play a more prominent role next season at Elland Road as the Whites prepare to sell the winger to Tottenham this summer.
Clarke’s future has been a talking point since before he made his senior debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s men in the 1-1 draw with Brentford last year. But it appears that he is close to bringing an end to that speculation.
The Guardian reports that he is set to join Spurs for £10 million in a deal that could rise to £11.5 million, and he is set to head back to Leeds immediately for a season-long loan.
With the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that Jack Harrison is close to returning to the Whites for another loan and the club wish to sign Helder Costa from Wolves, it will be interesting to see which wide-man misses out if Bielsa gets all three men through the door.
Judging by these latest reports, it will not be Clarke.
The Guardian reports that Leeds plan to hand Clarke a bigger role during the coming campaign following a season in which he made 24 appearances, but just four starts for the Whites in the league.
Of course, it is not a huge surprise that Leeds plan to use Clarke more often now that he appears set to return to Elland Road for another year. But it does say something about the faith that Bielsa has in him that he has already earmarked him for a more prominent role next season.
If he can recapture the form that he showed during his first couple of months in the side, Leeds will have the kind of game-changer in their ranks that could make all the difference in the promotion race.
And Clarke will head off to Tottenham with all the confidence he will need as he looks to make an immediate impact for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
