Jeunes Footeux report that Montreal winger Djordje Mihailovic is attracting enormous interest from Europe, after a stunning 2021 campaign. Leeds, Everton, Newcastle and Jose Mourinho’s Roma are four of 11 clubs keen.

Mihailovic, 23, joined Montreal from Chicago Fire in December 2020, ahead of the 2021 campaign – being signed by Thierry Henry. It came after an impressive stint in Chicago, having a hand in 19 goals during 76 games.

But his form at Montreal was superb. While Henry signed him, but never actually managed the player due to leaving before the start of the 2021 season, Mihailovic was superb for the MLS side last campaign.

Playing 34 times, he produced a whopping 14 assists for Montreal – also scoring four goals. That creativity is attracting interest from Europe, with Jeunes Footeux reporting as many as 11 clubs are keeping tabs on him.

Indeed, Leeds, Everton and Newcastle are keen. Dortmund, Roma, Atalanta, Bologna, Leverkusen, Nice and two unnamed French sides are also keeping tabs. The report says a fee of £6.5million will tempt Montreal this summer.

Marsch effect could help Leeds win race for in-demand Mihailovic

Marsch’s knowledge of the MLS could certainly be behind Leeds looking at the six-time USA star. The new Leeds boss, as well as the new ownership of the San Francisco 49ers, could be keen to start targeting MLS players.

However, Leeds are well equipped out wide with Raphinha, Dan James, Jack Harrison and Crysencio Summerville. They hardly need a winger – while Newcastle could certainly do with a bit of cover on the flanks.

The last time they bought from the MLS, though, it did not work out – Miguel Almiron hardly living up to his transfer fee. An intriguing battle for a player with potential, and indeed, a low-risk signing at just £6.5million.
