Leeds United are reportedly looking to sign West Ham United striker Ashley Fletcher in January.

According to The Sun, Leeds United are in talks with West Ham United over a deal to sign striker Ashley Fletcher during the January transfer window.

The Whites have seen Chris Wood excel this season with 14 goals in just 25 games, and whilst Garry Monk also has Marcus Antonsson at his disposal, another striker may be on his wish list in January to aid Leeds’ push for a play-off place.

Few names are being linked with Leeds right now, but a recurring target is Ashley Fletcher, as The Sun reported in October that the Whites want to take the West Ham striker on loan having missed out on his permanent signature over the summer.

Now, The Sun claim that Leeds are in talks to sign Fletcher in January, with a potential permanent move suggested, as West Ham could allegedly demand around £2million for his signature.

An athletic striker with great close control, Fletcher was born in Keighley, meaning a move to nearby Leeds could be somewhat appealing, but West Ham shouldn’t even entertain the idea of selling him in January.

The 21-year-old attacker – who has scored twice in three caps for the England Under-20’s – has flashed real talent in his limited playing time for Slaven Bilic’s side this season, and given West Ham’s lack of attacking firepower, Fletcher should be considered as a first-team option this season, especially after his impressive EFL Cup performance against Manchester United.

Fletcher also has major potential to become a consistent goalscorer in the Premier League, and letting a player like that go for just £2million would be a major mistake for West Ham, who should focus on developing a talented youngster like Fletcher, rather than foreign flops like Simone Zaza or Jonathan Calleri.

Giving Fletcher some first-team football at Elland Road in a loan deal would be a smart move, but selling him in January for just £2million is one of the last things West Ham and manager Bilic should consider – and even if the Hammers would entertain offers, he should be worth much more than the alleged £2million, as talented, young English strikers are hard to come by.
