Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa is reportedly not planning to bring Lewie Coyle back to Elland Road in January.

According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are ready to allow Lewie Coyle to extend his loan spell at Fleetwood until the end of the season.

Coyle returned for a second loan with the League One side in the summer after spending the entirety of last season at Highbury Stadium. He has featured in all but one of Joey Barton’s side’s games this term.

His consistency may have left some Leeds supporters urging Marcelo Bielsa to bring the 23-year-old back into the fold at Elland Road when his loan was initially scheduled to end in January.

The likes of Luke Ayling, Gaetano Berardi and Stuart Dallas have all picked up injuries at some stage this season or remain sidelined. But it appears that Coyle will not be returning to bolster Leeds’ options.

Instead, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that he is set to extend his loan with Fleetwood until the end of the campaign, with the Cod Army currently finalising the terms of the deal.

The fresh move may concern some of Coyle’s supporters amongst the Leeds fanbase. The academy graduate has been on the cusp of breaking into the first-team for a long time now, but he now appears to have more hurdles to clear than ever with the options that Bielsa has.

He is certainly a player who has the quality and potential to catch Bielsa’s eye. But fans would be forgiven for wondering whether it is ever going to happen at Leeds for Coyle.
