Victor Orta has been offered the chance to bring Real Madrid left-back Miguel Gutierrez to Leeds United during the summer transfer window, as reported by TEAMtalk.
It’s a fair reflection of where Leeds are at right now that a bonafide European giant is willing to entrust them with one of their most promising young talents.
19-year-old Gutierrez is rated very highly indeed within the walls of the Santiago Bernabau.
Real Madrid legend-turned-youth coach Raul Gonzalez is a huge fan of the attack-minded full-back, convincing Gutierrez to stay put despite interest from the likes of Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester United (Goal Espana).
Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, is a big admirer of a player he tried and failed to take to Old Trafford in 2017. According to Defensa Central, Tottenham Hotspur have come calling recently.
But while Real Madrid remain big fans of the Spain U19 international, a short-term loan – with a view to a permanent deal – is something they would consider.
TEAMtalk even claims that Leeds have been approached, via director of football Victor Orta, about a deal that would see Gutierrez intially spend the 2020/21 campaign at Elland Road.
Of course, the Marcelo Bielsa factor is at play here.
The enigmatic Leeds boss is famed throughout the game for his ability to turn untapped potential into top-level talent; see the vast improvements made by Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas, Luke Ayling and co over the last three years.
And Real Madrid obviously feel that Gutierrez, who has a £35 million release clause in his contract, could return from a spell at the Thorp Arch finishing school ready to challenge for a place in Zinedine Zidane’s first-team.
Though, with David Alaba expected to join Ferland Mendy at the Bernabau this summer, Real may be tempted to replicate the deal that saw Sergio Reguilon join Tottenham in 2020.
Don’t be surprised if Los Blancos include a buy-back clause in any deal for Gutierrez.
