Ekuban has left Leeds to join SuperLig side Trabzonspor on loan until the end of the season.
Turkish outlet Milliyet claim Leeds United could receive a figure of almost £1.1million next summer for striker Caleb Ekuban, if he decides to join Turkish outfit Trabzonspor on a permanent basis.
The 24-year-old joined Trabzonspor this summer on loan until the end of the season, with the SuperLig club including an option to purchase the Italian-born striker at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
Ekuban struggled at Leeds last season, proving to be another example of Victor Orta’s failures. Under both Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom, he managed only two goals throughout the whole season.
New manager Marcelo Bielsa decided to completely ostracise the striker from the squad’s pre-season campaign, and decided not to give him a shirt number – along with the likes of Eunan O’Kane and Vurnon Anita.
It has finally seen Ekuban leave Elland Road this summer on loan, and the Turkish report claims Leeds will receive a fee of £180,000 as an initial fee for the powerful striker.
If the loan turns out to be a successful one and Trabzonspor want to keep Ekuban permanently, they will have to stump up £900,000 to sign him permanently, taking the overall sum of the transfer to just under £1.1million.
Ekuban has a contract at Leeds until the summer of 2021, but the likelihood of him returning is small with the club boasting Kemar Roofe, Patrick Bamford and impressive youngsters Ryan Edmondson and Sam Dalby.
