Jaap Stam, currently in charge of Leeds United’s Championship rivals Reading, is one of the names that Andrea Radrizzani is considering.
Reading manager Jaap Stam is a target for Leeds
A report in the Yorkshire Evening Post has suggested that Leeds have included Reading boss Jaap Stam on their list of potential managerial targets as they continue their search for Garry Monk’s successor.
Monk departed Elland Road in the days following Andrea Radrizzani’s full buyout of the Championship club, and the supporters are still in the dark about who will be coming in.
Leeds have still not found Garry Monk’s successor
It appears that the Whites are now starting to make progress however, with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that they have drawn up a four-man shortlist that they plan to consider with Reading boss Stam being one of the names included.
Stam enjoyed an excellent first year with the Royals, guiding them to a play-off final where only a penalty shootout denied them the chance to take a place in the Premier League, and Radrizzani is said to have been impressed by the Dutchman’s efforts at the Madejski Stadium, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.
Stam led Leeds to the play-off final
The Yorkshire Evening Post adds that Stam – who was critical of Leeds’ style of play following the Whites’ 2-0 win over Reading back in December – has one year left on his deal with the Royals and is in talks about an extension, though Radrizzani is now considering whether to make an approach.
Whether that approach will be positively received by Stam or approved by Reading would remain to be seen if it does come in, but Leeds fans would surely be willing to overlook his connections to Manchester United and his previous criticism of the side if he did come in and bring the kind of success that he so nearly led the Royals to this past season.
