Report: Leeds closing in on striker Abdul-Basit Agouda; £500,000 fee to be paid

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Abdul-Basit Agouda.

According to a report from The Sunday Mirror (print edition; 7th January 2018; page 20), Leeds are closing in on a deal to sign Abdul-Basit Agouda with a £500,000 fee set to be paid for the 18-year-old.

The Sunday Mirror reports that the Whites have had the teenage striker on their radar since Norway’s under-19 side’s 4-0 win over their Finland counterparts back in November, a game in which Agouda scored.

And now it appears that he may be Elland Road-bound, with The Sunday Mirror (print edition; 7th January 2018; page 20) reporting that Agouda has rejected a new contract with Stromsgodset and is closing in on a move to Leeds.

The Sunday Mirror adds that Agouda is set to cost £500,000 should the deal go through. But it would certainly be no surprise if Leeds reportedly being on the verge of landing the prospect does little to improve the Whites fans’ mood.

The club’s transfer policy has led to some frustration amongst the fans, with signing talents for the future seemingly proving to be the priority rather than those who can improve the club’s chances of securing promotion out of the Championship this season.

And with Agouda boasting just two substitute appearances in the Norwegian top flight during his career, it would certainly appear that making an impact in the Leeds first-team – if the deal does end up going through – may not be part of his remit for this season.

If Agouda realises his potential, then, of course, the deal will prove to be a masterstroke from the Whites, but not bolstering the quality within the first-team this month will surely be a massive gamble, and after the FA Cup defeat to Newport County, the pressure is certainly on Thomas Christiansen’s men.
