Leeds United representatives were in Zagreb recently trying to seal a deal for Josko Gvardiol, by they failed to do so, Sportske have revealed.

Leeds tasked their club staff with flying over to sign Gvardiol, and wanted him to come back on the plane with them.

However, getting the central defender away from Zagreb has not proven as straight forward as Leeds would have liked.

Leeds are having to compete with RB Leipzig for the youngster’s signature, and there is no guarantees that they will win the race.

The Whites are ready to offer more money than Leipzig for the 18-year-old, but the German side are willing to loan him back to Zagreb, and reports in Croatia suggest that this bid is actually more appealing to club and player.

Leeds may well now have to up their bid again if they are to get hold of Gvardiol, which makes his transfer look very risky.

Zagreb want £23 million for the wonderkid (Di Marzio), which is a huge sum for a player who has such a lack of experience at senior level.

Leeds have obviously spotted Gvardiol’s potential, but investing so much to secure to talents of such an unproven player now looks a big gamble.
