Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Vasilios Barkas this summer.
The Greek goalkeeper is heavily linked with a move away from AEK Athens and according to The Record, the Whites are monitoring the situation.
The report adds that Leeds are joined in the race to sign the 26-year-old – valued at £6.5 million – by Montepellier and Celtic.
United will be a Premier League team next season and that fact alone might give Victor Orta the edge over his reported rivals for Barkas’s signature.
But it throws up bigger questions about Kiko Casilla’s future.
If Leeds want a new goalkeeper then Orta might be planning for life without Casilla, who returned from an eight-match ban earlier this month.
Ilhan Meslier has proven himself a fine deputy in the Spaniard’s absence and Leeds are reportedly trying to sign the Lorient youngster on a permanent basis.
If Orta genuinely wants Barkas then maybe it indicates that Casilla has no future in West Yorkshire.
