Leeds United want Nat Phillips and are prepared to launch a bid for the Liverpool defender without a head coach or sporting director.

Liverpool defender Nat Phillips is wanted at Leeds United in a deal which could reach around £10million this summer.

That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Leeds are pursuing a deal for Phillips despite needing to make a couple of big appointments.

Leeds are without a head coach or sporting director after the exits of Sam Allardyce and Victor Orta.

Replacements haven’t yet been found but Leeds are ready to press ahead with a move for Phillips regardless.

Liverpool are though to want around £10million for Phillips as he prepares to enter the final two years of his contract.

Hailed as ‘brilliant’ by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Phillips has been dependable when called upon by the Reds in recent years.

Hardly the most flashy defender around, Phillips is very effective when it comes to heading and clearing danger in front of his own goal.

That’s maybe an attitude Leeds were lacking last season and Phillips could now be a major addition to boost Leeds’ push for promotion.

Daniel Farke would love Leeds United move for Nat Phillips

The report intriguingly highlights that Daniel Farke previously wanted to sign Phillips at Norwich City.

Farke is one of the frontrunners for the Leeds job after leaving his post as Borussia Monchengladbach boss.

The German has a proven track record when it comes to promotions out of the Championship and that could tempt Leeds into a deal.

Leeds may go and try to sign Phillips before even appointing Farke, but he could seemingly love the move anyway.

Farke will want a strong back line if Leeds are to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Robin Koch could depart this summer and Phillips may be viewed as somebody who can slot right in as a right-footed centre back.

Targeting a player Farke has long wanted to sign will only add to the idea of the German landing the Elland Road job – and a managerial appointment surely isn’t far away.
