Leeds United are reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper.
According to The Sun, Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom has made signing a new goalkeeper his top priority for the summer transfer window.
The Leeds boss saw his side draw 2-2 at Reading on Saturday afternoon, and with a play-off push virtually impossible now, Heckingbottom may now be planning for the summer already.
It’s unclear just how much Heckingbottom will be given to spend – or how much influence he will have given the presence of director of football Victor Orta – but the Leeds manager appears to have his top priority in place.
The report claims that Heckingbottom wants to bring in a new goalkeeper, whilst changes to the backroom staff at Elland Road could also be coming.
Leeds must do better than last summer
Whilst Leeds will be looking for a number of signings given their disappointing season this term, a goalkeeper is understandably the priority right now.
Orta brought in two goalkeepers last summer as Felix Wiedwald arrived from Werder Bremen, but has made a number of high-profile errors, meaning he has lost his place to Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
The other signing, veteran Andy Lonergan, was never really supposed to be anything other than cover for Wiedwald, but was pressed into action earlier this season due to the German’s struggles.
Whether it’s Orta or Heckingbottom taking the lead on signings, a new goalkeeper must be brought in this summer, and it may take considerable investment to land a settled goalkeeper, just like Heckingbottom had at Barnsley in Adam Davies.
