Leeds United are at the front of the queue to sign the Bodo/Glimt attacking midfielder Jens Petter Hauge, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian website claims that more than one of Leeds’ Premier League rivals have been alerted to Hauge.

The 20-year-old caught the eye against AC Milan in the third round of Europa League qualification on Thursday and has scored or assisted around a goal per game this calendar year.

It is claimed that, as a result, a more important club than his current one could await and Atalanta, who will compete again at Champions League level next season, are said to follow him closely.

Calciomercato adds that Udinese have already asked about Hauge, who plays in a similar position to that of the Italians’ Leeds-linked Argentina international, Rodrigo de Paul.

And Hauge could prove a cheaper alternative, with Udinese reported to want £35 million for De Paul.

It is perhaps little surprise to see the Norway Under-21 international linked with a move to Leeds, after the Whites’ director of football Victor Orta admitted in an interview with Training Ground Guru last year that he had scouted one of his then teammates.

Leeds’ academy already contains the Norway-eligible midfielders Niklas Haugland and Morten Spencer.
