Leeds United are interested in raiding Real Madrid for Raul Asencio – but face competition from West Ham United.
That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (30/04, p76), who claim that both Leeds and West Ham are really chasing Asencio.
It’s stated that Real directors are now willing to let defender Asencio leave the club this summer.
Real would be willing to sell Asencio for just £1million, which would be well within the budgets of Leeds and West Ham.
However, Real may demand a buy-back clause as part of the deal in case Asencio becomes a star in England.
The report adds that West Ham have already spoken to Asencio’s representatives ahead of a potential summer deal.
Leeds have been scouting Asencio too with Victor Orta always looking to his homeland of Spain for potential talent.
A decision on Asencio’s future allegedly won’t be taken until the end of May but Leeds and West Ham are positioning themselves for deals.

Who is Leeds and West Ham target Raul Asencio?
Asencio hails from Las Palmas and started out in the ranks of the Gran Canaria side.
Real spotted his potential at a young age though and pounced to bring him to the Spanish capital.
Asencio has featured for Real’s Under-17’s, Under-18’s and Under-19’s, but currently plays for RSC Internacional.
That is the second reserve team of Real Madrid and they play in the fifth tier of Spanish football.
When you add the quality of football to Asencio’s age, it’s clear that he would be one for the future.
Throwing Asencio into Premier League action would be a huge risk and is surely unlikely to happen.
Asencio is now a name to keep a close eye on though with a move to England potentially in the pipeline.
