According to Spanish newspaper AS, Aston Villa, Everton, Leeds United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs to have scouted Villarreal this season.
Whilst we’re still in March, the Premier League and Championship campaigns are drawing towards their conclusions, and many fans have one eye on the summer transfer window.
The Spanish media certainly have the transfer window on their minds, as newspaper AS report that a host of Premier League clubs have been watching Villarreal in action this season.
The report claims that Premier League sides Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Hull City, Leicester City, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Swansea City, Tottenham, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United have all been watching Fran Escriba’s side, who have featured prominently in La Liga and the Europa League this season.
It’s added that four Championship clubs – Aston Villa, Bristol City, Leeds United and Newcastle United – have all been scouting Villarreal too as they gear up for the summer transfer window.
Leeds struck one deal with Villarreal in January as winger Alfonso Pedraza joined the club, but he can’t have been the player they were watching given that he has been out on loan at Lugo.
Garry Monk and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Garry Monk’s assistant Pep Clotet should know a player or two in his native Spain, and a player like left back Jose Angel – on loan from Porto – could be on the radar given that Charlie Taylor is out of contract this summer.
Top Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Everton, City, United and Spurs will surely be watching the likes of Mateo Musacchio, Samu Castillejo and Cedric Bakambu; all talented players with potential to still improve.
Teams in mid-table or the bottom half of the Premier League table may be limited to fringe players like Antonio Rukavina, Adrian Lopez, Atletico Madrid loanee Rafael Santos Borre or even ex-Spurs striker Roberto Soldado, with plenty of talent on offer at El Madrigal.
